We have nothing to fear but fear itself.
—Franklin D. Roosevelt
* * *
All my MAGA friends are worried.
Okay, there’s only one and she’s worried to death. She’s hoping for the best while preparing for the worst. She hopes and prays (literally!) that Trump will win. But she fears Harris will.
That possibility fills her with dread. Her stomach is in knots. She studies the polls and bites her fingernails. She says she won’t watch the news anymore. And then does. Then doesn’t. Then does. Then doesn’t.
She’s a nervous wreck.
The only thing to fear is NOT fear itself, she tells me. The only thing—THE ONE AND ONLY THING—to fear is Kamala.
The Wicked Witch of the West.
If Harris wins, she says, there will be an apocalyptic disaster unlike any the world has ever seen.
She believes there’ll be: More wars and rumors of war. More famine, pestilence, earthquakes, hurricanes. More inflation. More transvestites. More gender transitioning. More same-sex marriages. More abortions. (Babies murdered!)
More queer children’s books in libraries. More critical race theory in schools. More fascism, socialism, communism, and wokeism.
More illegal immigrants. More fentanyl deaths. More housing shortages. More homeless encampments. More riots. More disease, filth, vermin. More murder. More rape.
And that’s not all.
There’ll be: Less freedom. Less fidelity to the Constitution. Less adherence to the rule of law. Less religion. Less patriotism. Fewer police officers. Fewer guns. Fewer Bibles. Fewer cats. Fewer dogs. Fewer jobs for white people.
(WHEW!)
That dark vision keeps my friend tossing and turning. She can’t sleep. She foresees a national nightmare on the horizon. It horrifies her.
If Harris wins, our beloved country is doomed, she says. Democracy will die!
She plans to move to New Zealand—if they’ll have her.
(They won’t.)
And I thought I was worried about The Election.
The MAGA cult is SCARED TO DEATH. There’s no joy, faith, or hope in their camp. Only anger, bitterness, and fear. They fear the end of the world is near.
(It’s not.)
I am not scared to death. I have faith.
I believe the world will go on no matter what.
I believe the sun will rise on winners and losers.
I believe in love.
I believe Harris will win.
I will console my MAGA friend, of course, and then gleefully join my other friends on cloud nine.
Hello.
It’s morning in America.
Again.
