The Devil’s Gift took Thanksgiving week off. So there’s no post today except to say: Today is the first Sunday of Advent.
Doom and gloom fills the news these days. So it’s a good time to light the Advent candle of hope and call to mind signs of hope.
Please leave a comment below so other subscribers can see what you see as “signs of hope.” One sign of hope for me is the verdict rendered by the jury in Brunswick, GA.
Oh, and one other thing…
BOOK ALERT. All copies of my two books (Let Love Arise and 80 Dispatches from the Devil’s Domain) are sold out at Four Seasons Books. Not to worry. More are on the way. The supply chain rolls but it rolls slowly. So it’s a good idea to order now to ensure delivery by Christmas to kith or kin. Click the links above to order either book directly from Four Seasons. Or go to Amazon. I hope you will.
As with humor and music, life without hope would be totally insupportable. Tonight, light a candle.
For us hope was fulfilled when, in spite of illnesses, travels, and absences, we were able to gather in a few extra volunteers to help decorate the church for Advent yesterday. Even the dog helped. This time of year is so hard for so many and our son lost a good friend to suicide last year at the start of Advent. He, like another friend, remember this young man and they struggle to understand the young man’s decision. I think, giving hope to others, reaching out to those who may be struggling is something anyone of us can do any time.
More monarch butterflies noted in California!
Hope for me is the light that shines in dark places… like the stars in the sky, & doing COVID testing the other nite for 5 homeless folks exposed to Covid – all tested Negative, which is positive & hopeful🙏🏼💓
Actor, comedian, and singer Zero Mostel said, “Laughter is God’s hand on the shoulder of a troubled world.” This weekend we had young granddaughters with us, aged seven and nine. Together we experienced a high level of levity with chuckles and giggles galore, something that it healthy, wholistic and hopeful. The world is indeed a troubled one, but we still enjoyed of moments of sheer joy! No need to light a candle of hope tonight; I saw that light in their eyes this weekend.
Humor stirs a positive note in my bad-news wearied brain. And sharing humor multiplies the benefit . Thank God for humor, and the positive impact of its multiplier affect. This tickled my brain:
Helvetica and Times New Roman walk into a bar.
“Get out of here!” shouts the bartender. “We don’t serve your type.”
Hope shines bright in every gesture of love and every effort toward justice.
