GIVING UP LENT
Today is the First Sunday in Lent. I’m not giving up anything. I’m not taking on anything. I’m happy with the way I am.
Randall "Randy" Tremba was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio. He took a bachelor of arts in philosophy at Wheaton College, Illinois (1969), a master’s of divinity at Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena,California (1973), and a doctor of ministry at Princeton Seminary (1992). He was installed as minister of the Shepherdstown (WV) Presbyterian Church in July 1976. Forty-one years later he retired. In between, he married Paula, became a parent (Jonah, Nathanael, Amanda) and a grandfather, founded the Rumsey Radio Hour (1990), and co-founded the Shepherdstown Good News Paper with Ed Zahniser (May 1979).

Today is Valentine’s Day. I’m not a big fan.
I attended tonight’s Super Bowl last year—in a dream. Nothing in that dream will happen tonight. But something nearly as incredible will.

On the second day of this new year I walked the battlegrounds of Antietam. I’ve walked those grounds many times. But this time was different.
Some say the star of Bethlehem was the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn. Some say it was a comet, a supernova, or a double occultation of Jupiter by the moon.
