BORN ON THE 5TH OF JULY
I was born on the 5th of July. It’s an unremarkable date.
Randall "Randy" Tremba was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio. He took a bachelor of arts in philosophy at Wheaton College, Illinois (1969), a master’s of divinity at Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena,California (1973), and a doctor of ministry at Princeton Seminary (1992). He was installed as minister of the Shepherdstown (WV) Presbyterian Church in July 1976. Forty-one years later he retired. In between, he married Paula, became a parent (Jonah, Nathanael, Amanda) and a grandfather, founded the Rumsey Radio Hour (1990), and co-founded the Shepherdstown Good News Paper with Ed Zahniser (May 1979).
I was born on the 5th of July. It’s an unremarkable date.
I was not born a racist. I was not born a misogynist. I was not born a homophobe.
A bear waddled through our yard just after midnight last Sunday night. And that just doesn’t happen every day.
This past Sunday I stood with 500 people under a bright sun at the rally for Social Justice in Charles Town.
On Monday, June 1, 2020, at 7:10 p.m. Eastern Time, the president of the United States of America held up a Bible.
I have two grandsons. They live in Boonsboro. Far enough not to see (or hear) them everyday.
And beware of quacks!!
No wish, no dream, no messiah will save us.
Much to my surprise, I was there.
Who knew?
Thanks to Old Scratch I’ll be posting a reflection on something I find remarkable in and around our world most every Sunday morning.
Read more about the devil’s role in my life in “This Little Light of Mine” under Let Love Arise in the menu bar.

I reached a personal milestone yesterday. Alas, there were no fireworks and no parades.

Soccer is a beautiful game, my sons told me years ago. I couldn’t see what they saw, but I’m beginning to.

I'm a soccer fan but not a fanatic. Alas, the game releases the inner barbarian.

Today is my birthday. I was born in 1947. Let's hear if for the boomers!
